Introduction
Who is Dreamland?
Dreamland is part of the Colruyt Group. It aims to inspire children and their parents, grandparents, family, and friends to play and have fun together. Dreamland offers a vast product assortment, both online and in physical stores, all centered around family entertainment. In addition to indoor and outdoor toys, the company also provides garden and camping equipment.
Pàu was brought in to support the development of new functionalities for the Dreamland website. Our primary role was to oversee Agile development, ensuring clear release planning so the company could access results at the right time.
Challenge
Optimizing workflows with Agile
Dreamland and the Colruyt Group are large organizations, each with a wide variety of processes and systems in place. The complexity of these systems required careful consideration when developing new digital functionalities. From inventory management to customer service workflows, every department had its own unique needs. This made the task of aligning workflows across the organization challenging but also crucial for seamless digital transformation. Our goal was to streamline processes while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to each department’s specific requirements.
Some of the existing functionalities were outdated and in need of improvement, while others were yet to be developed or integrated. The aim was to bring the systems up to date while introducing new, efficient solutions that could address both current and future business needs. By using Agile methodology, we ensured that development occurred in incremental, iterative steps, allowing for continuous feedback and the opportunity to adjust as needed. This iterative approach ensured a smoother transition and optimized integration into the company’s existing workflows.
Approach
Introducing Agile
Pàu frequently identified processes that could no longer continue in their current form and was not afraid to challenge the status quo — because it was ultimately better for the company. In some cases, thinking long-term and ensuring future-proof solutions proved to be more effective than implementing a quick fix.
A dedicated Product Owner carefully analyzed requirements, budgets, and business needs, structured them effectively, and maintained communication with the development teams.
The Scrum Master from Pàu ensured coordination, oversight, and prioritization of all marketing requests. It was crucial to work in a way that aligned with available budgets and resources.
Pàu also introduced teams to the Kanban method for task distribution. Kanban is a workflow management system that helps define, manage, and improve service delivery.
Originally developed for manufacturing, the Kanban method is now widely used by Agile software development teams. This particular team needed to remain highly flexible to quickly adapt to new communication plans.
Solution
An Effective Office Design: Agile Environment
Collaboration between different teams significantly improved. An effective office design fosters diverse thinking by creating an environment that meets employees’ needs, ultimately increasing their engagement.
By optimizing workflows and ensuring that tasks were effectively structured, the teams were able to achieve more within the same resource constraints. This meant that no additional investments in staffing or budget were required, yet productivity and efficiency increased. Agile methodologies ensured that resources were allocated in a way that maximized output while maintaining high quality.
Thanks to the Agile way of working, there was a clear release plan, allowing the company to review results at the right moment.
In terms of marketing communication, Pàu acted as a bridge between the company and the team responsible for creating web content.
